Sustainability

The ultimate goal is to offer shelter, occupational, physical, emotional recovery, and re-entry of United States Veterans and other disabled persons to American Society. To also provide opportunities for useful employment and activities that will enrich their lives.

Dream Lake Foundation shall acquire locations and resources to house, train and rehabilitate veterans returning from combat, or non-combat service and whenever possible to make some resources available to other disadvantaged citizens.

Veterans will help build and manage housing and resources through the use of water, wind, fire, earth and solar power. Locations designated for such endeavors will be designed and built around sustainable practices. These practices include but are not limited to:

  1. Learning to build passive solar, sustainable homes such as: Strawbale, Cob, Earthship™, and other high thermal mass structures that will be highly beneficial in Colorado. Such homes, oriented to the south, will enable passive solar heating and indoor gardens.
  2. Learning to build wind turbines to power sustainable homes and community buildings, as well as using state-of-the-art solar options.
  3. Collect water from roof tops and directing into cisterns and filters for use in the home, and subsequent gardens that will feed many.
  4. Learning composting methods to enrich gardens and the earth surrounding the community.
  5. Building green houses to extend the growing season for food not as easily grown in cooler outdoor temperatures, which will provide food for others who come in need.
  6. To share and teach these practices to other interested persons, that all may benefit from sustainable solutions, and thus not be dependent on a universal grid that may be vulnerable to rolling blackouts or forced rationing of energy.

Dream Lake Foundation will enrich the lives of Veterans through training in a setting befitting the honor that our service men and women deserve. These resources will provide independent energy and sustenance for Americans who have fought to preserve our Constitutional Freedom…
